Construction and building sites are necessary to help build the infrastructure, housing and services that we all rely on every day.

However, these sites can also be extremely dangerous and present those working on them with significant risk of injury or worse.

CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry course gives workers the skills and knowledge they need to identify and understand the health and safety requirements and legislation that exist to protect themselves and others.

You may know this course as the “white card”.

This nationally recognised course is mandatory for any persons working on a building or construction site in any capacity and is held regularly at our training centres.

Please note 100 points of identification must be produced on the day of training. Details of what documents can be used are available on the SafeWork NSW website.

Safety knowledge every worker relies on

For all persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU), it is important that everyone involved in a job is aware of their responsibilities for ensuring the work site remains safe.

CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry course will teach participants how to identify and report common construction hazards, provide an understanding of basic risk control measures, and identify some procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies.

About this course

This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work. The unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.

It is expected that site-specific induction training will be conducted prior to conducting construction work.

Duration: 1 day (8 hours)

The white card course can be completed by participants aged 14 and over.

School students looking to gain their white card should obtain a letter from their school outlining their name, age and confirmation of their enrolment. This assists in obtaining the 100 points of identification required.

Yes.

Our trainers are able to hold this course in just about any location with a classroom or boardroom-type environment.

Alternately, we can hold this class at our training centres in Sydney and Dubbo.

Successful completion of the course assessment will see participants issued with a temporary white card. This card is valid for use on work sites within NSW. Within 30 days the NSW Government will send you the full card in the post.

This depends on the type of work you intend on doing.

For those entering the building and construction sector, HSE strongly advises that you complete height safety. confined space and asbestos awareness training as well as your white card.

These courses give participants important skills in identifying and mitigating a range of very common workplace safety issues, as well as providing safe work practices that suit a range of high risk work envrionments.

This course is only available to residents of New South Wales. Other states and territories will have their own general induction framework.
