One-Day Work Safely at Heights and Confined Space Refresher Training
Keep your existing working at heights and confined space qualifications current with this 1 day skills update course.
Heights and confined spaces comprise the two most dangerous environments to work in. Falls from heights represent one of the most common causes of injuries at work. Confined spaces also carry a risk to workers through reduced access to oxygen or other unbreathable atmospheres, limited visibility and reduced amount of space in which to move around.
For those working in the building, construction and related industries, Work Safely at Heights and confined space training represent two accreditations every tradesperson should have.
Height Safety Engineers regularly hold combined Work Safely at Heights and Confined Space Refresher training at our state-of-the-art training centres in Sydney, Melbourne and Dubbo.

Keeping your qualifications current helps keep you safe at work.
Although working at heights qualifications and confined space qualifications do not expire, it is important the skills taught in those courses are retained and updated through regular refresher training.
Refresher training may also be required on a regular schedule by an employer, or as part of site rules for a work site, construction site or building site. Generally, refresher training is recommended for those that have previously completed courses within the last three years.
Undertaking refresher training will give students the opportunity to ensure their understanding of relevant legislation, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), height access, confined space entry and other critical safety skills are at a level where they can be deemed competent to complete tasks in working at heights or confined space scenarios.

Refresher Course FAQs
Why should I choose Height Safety Engineers over another certification provider?
This is a really good question! There are many training providers out there that can provide training in working at heights or confined space for you or your team. Height Safety Engineers is invested in making sure our students do more than just check a box when it comes to certifying their skills in all areas of workplace safety.
We go beyond the basics.
Our refresher courses cover the same material as if you were completing the original training course. This ensures that students are getting the most up-to-date training available when attending a course at HSE.
It is important to not only look safe, but also to BE safe when working at heights or in confined spaces. Sure, employees can take a short course to maintain their accreditation and currency. But if they are not getting the most practical, most recent information on working in risky environments given to them, the risk of an injury or worse resulting from poor work practice increases dramatically.
Our courses are designed to give the students not only the skills they need to meet the requirements of a given competency, but the skills they need to ensure they are always maintaining best practice workplace safety every day when they are out on the job.
Put your skills into practice with state-of-the-art facilities.
Employers want to make sure their team gets real experience working at heights and in confined spaces, not just standing on a wooden box or ducking under a table and getting a check mark for it. Our training facilities in Sydney, Melbourne and Dubbo have been purpose-built to provide the most realistic simulations of scenarios for those working at heights and in confined spaces.
Yourself or your team will undergo real-world scenarios using roofs, ladders, ropes, harnesses, confined space entry and working areas.
We have highly qualified and experienced trainers.
Our training team members are the best in the industry. They bring over a century of combined experience to every class they teach.
We are dedicated to making sure we can offer students the most up-to-date information and skills when they train at HSE, which is why we continually re-train all our instructions and have strong standards for ongoing professional development to ensure our classes are taught consistently and with best practice in mind.
Are refresher courses required?
The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) forbids any Registered Training Organisation (RTO) from issuing a nationally recognised competency with an expiry date.
However, refresher courses are suggested to be completed on a regular basis in order to ensure skills and knowledge are kept up to date with industry trends. They are often required by an employer or mandated as part of the site rules for a work site. For example, a local council may require competencies to be updated once per year, or a construction site may require all workers to have completed a competency within the last three years.
The Working at Heights Association (WAHA) recommends competencies for height safety be updated every two years. In our experience, large construction companies and contractors will often not recognise a competency that is older than two years.
Who is this course designed for?
Combined Refresher training is designed for those that have completed the following competencies within the last three years:
- RIIWHS204D Work Safely at Heights
- RIIWHS202D Enter and Work in Confined Spaces
- MSMPER200 Work in Accordance with an Issued Permit
- MSMWHS217 Gas Test Atmospheres
These competencies should be held by anyone who is required to perform any work or task where there is a need to enter and work in a confined space, or perform a task on a roof or other raised working area. This could include workers from entry levels to senior management.
