Height Safety Egnineers is part of the Elbon Group of Companies.

Company History

Elbon began as a partnership in 1985. Initially, the company delivered architectural and engineering designs for residential as well as small commercial and industrial projects. They also provided designs and construction services for commercial fitouts with a focus on medical centres, day surgery clinics alongside some more typical office layouts.

As this work increased, Elbon increased its involvement to include project and construction management services, mainly for those buildings Elbon had designed.

Between 1996 and 2002 Elbon designed and managed the construction of approximately 30 such projects.

In the early 2000s, Elbon expanded its service offering to include design and testing services covering the specific area of height safety.

Elbon began marketing these services under the Height Safety Engineers name in conjunction with other partners.

Elbon successfully became a registered training organisation (RTO) in 2006, with the course “Work Safely at Height” available on scope.

Later that same year, Elbon fully acquired the Height Safety Engineers name. Under the Height Safety Engineers name, Elbon further developed its scope of training courses to include First Aid and White Card courses.

Soon after, a range of qualifications related to working in confined space were included on scope.

Australian Safety Systems joined the Elbon family in 2014, allowing the group to further expand its offerings in permanent height safety systems.

In 2016, Firefect, a training company based in Dubbo, NSW, joined the Elbon group. This allowed training services to be offered across rural and regional New South Wales, alongside the Sydney-based training team from Height Safety Engineers.

Elbon continued to grow, with Improve Height Safety joining in early 2017. This expanded the reach of the group into Victoria with Improve Height Safety becoming the Melbourne office of Height Safety Engineers.

During this time of expansion, Elbon continued to develop its range of accreditations and certifications. Across 2016 and 2017, the group gained accreditation in ISO 9001 – Quality Management Systems – and ISO 4801 – Workplace Health and Safety Management Systems.

The Elbon height safety system re-certification department also became a NATA accredited body. Elbon remains the only height safety company in Australia to be a NATA-accredited organisation for re-certification.

Elbon continued to solidify its place as a leader across the working at heights industry. In 2018 a memorandum of understanding with the Working at Heights Association was signed. This installed Elbon as the representative for the Association on the SF-015 Australian Standards Committee.

As part of this role, Elbon contributes to the drafting and ongoing review of Australian and New Zealand standards relating to fall protection.

As the group continued to grow and mature, Elbon sought to unify their competing offerings under a single name that easily identified the purpose and focus of the group.

In July 2020, Australian Safety Systems and Firefect took on the Height Safety Engineers name, completing Elbon’s journey from small partnership to a national provider of comprehensive height safety and high-risk work safety services.
